The conference will be held on the campus of the Johannes Kepler University in Linz, Austria. Linz is the third-largest city in Austria with close to 200.000 inhabitants. It is located at the river Danube, about 60 km north of the Alps, 200 km west of Vienna, and 120 km north-east of Salzburg. Linz airport is directly connected to the international airports in Vienna, Zurich, Frankfurt, and Amsterdam. Linz can easily be reached by train from Vienna, Salzburg, and Munich.

Linz was European Capital of Culture in 2009 and offers a broad cultural scene. Highlights are the Ars Electronica Center, the Bruckner Concert Hall, and the Lentos Art Museum. Also, a new Opera House will open in April 2013.

From a cultural point of view, the month September is particularly attractive because of several outstanding events: With 80.000 visitors the Ars Electronica Festival (Sept. 05 – 09; http://www.aec.at) is one of the most important international festivals for Media Art.

The International Brucknerfest (Sept. 12 – Oct. 06; http://www.brucknerfest.at/) brings to Linz an impressive number of renowned orchestras from, among others, London, St. Petersburg, Vienna, Munich, Dresden etc.

As a bridging event between the Ars Electronica and the Bruckner Festivals the Visualisierte Linzer Klangwolke (literally: visualized sound cloud; http://www.klangwolke.at) was introduced, which is an open-air concert with spectacular visual effects and fireworks that takes place in the evening of Sept. 7 at 8 p.m. in the Danube Park area between Ars Electronica Center, Bruckner Concert Hall and Lentos Art Museum. Up to 100.000 visitors are expected.
