Linz is in the north center of Austria and approximately 30 kilometers (19 miles) away from the Czech border. In 2009 Linz seized the reins as European Capital of Culture in 2009. In December 2014 the capital of Upper Austria became an Unesco City of Media Arts, due to a persistent enrichment of the urban lifestyle through sponsorship and successful integration of media art and involving society in these electronic art forms.
