Master's Degree in Legal and Business Aspects in Technics

Since Winter Semester 2009/2010, graduates from degree programs in Engineering and/or Natural Sciences can supplement their degrees by enrolling in a special degree program at the JKU focusing on legal and business aspects.

Graduates of degree programs in engineering and natural sciences find that professional careers of today increasingly require a stronger background in business and law as everyday work issues can include having to address legal and business aspects. The palette can range from dealing with contracts and data privacy issues to environmental law and expert and patent law for qualifications in the field of management. Today’s job market increasingly demands this type of expertise. The JKU is responding to the demand and in WS 2009/2010, the university introduced this tailor-made graduate degree program. The program is generally not subject to tuition fees.

The Master's degree program "Master’s in Legal and Business Aspects in Technics" has been designed for graduates from programs in engineering and natural sciences at all Austrian universities and universities of applied sciences (Diploma degree / Bachelor’s degree). The four-semester program at the JKU focuses intently on practice-oriented and interdisciplinary education. The program has also been designed to accommodate working professionals or students pursuing double degrees. When applicable, courses will be scheduled in blocked weekend sessions, during evening hours, and, if need be, will implement elements of distance and online learning. After successful completion of the program, graduates will be awarded the title “Master of Legal and Business Aspects in Technics” (MLBT).

Admission Requirements

Students must have successfully completed a Bachelor's degree program or Diploma degree program in Engineering or Natural Sciences (degree awarded) or have successfully completed an equivalent academic program of study at a recognized Austrian or international post-secondary institute of education.

Career Prospects

Graduates of academic degree programs in engineering and natural sciences are discovering that many professions today increasingly incorporate and address areas of business and law, especially in the field of management, appraisal assignments, and dealing with new technologies (such as nanotechnology and biotechnology).
