Mission Statement

The Global Management Program at the University of Victoria, Canada, the National Sun Yat Sen University, Taiwan, and the Johannes Kepler University Linz, Austria, aims to prepare students to work in a global environment.

This unique program enables students to develop a global mindset and enhance their social and cultural skill sets. Students learn to embrace diversity through close intercultural interaction with class members from different cultures.

The program is a life-enriching experience that fosters the development of the students’ personality and provides a lasting impact on the level of tolerance in regards to ambiguity, openness and flexibility.

To achieve these objectives, three universities from North America, the Asia / Pacific Rim, and Europe have joined forces to offer students an opportunity to acquire hands-on experience in business within a learning environment located in the world’s leading economic regions.

The program features four main aspects in support of situational learning:

  • The learning environment is authentic for each region as classes are taught by local faculty and practitioners.
  • Learning not only takes place in classrooms but also through extensive field-work at local companies and cultural organizations.
  • Learning is achieved through both content acquisition and team interaction. The students form a cohesive group by living and working together over an eight-month period, spending two to three months experiencing each culture.
  • The learning process is based on intercultural communication. To enhance the process, the program focuses strongly on language acquisition in English, Chinese, and German. Cultural understanding is brought about by applying self-reflection methods in regards to cultural experiences as well as active student immersion in the target cultures.
