JKU Open Lab

One of the JKU’s many goals includes encouraging young people to learn more about engineering and natural sciences and perhaps even one day pursue an academic degree in Engineering and Natural Sciences. The JKU Open Lab is a new, hands-on facility for children and teens to delve deeper into the exciting world of chemistry.

The JKU Open Lab is an external educational area where young people can conduct simple, safe, hands-on experiments in fields of engineering and natural sciences. Students learn what role chemistry plays in food coloring, colors, clothing, cleaning agents, and cosmetics. The JKU aims to supplement material taught at school with a better understanding of practical applications and show students how interesting, versatile, and exciting Natural Sciences can be.
The JKU Open Lab was created with the support of the Upper Austrian government and Borealis. Fees apply for lab use.
