Setting Out and Arriving: Escape, Life, and Integration in Austria (MORE INFORMS)

The JKU's "MORE" program gives qualified refugees initial access to university education. The program serves as a "bridging program" and prepares students for university courses by offering German language courses. Those in the MORE program are accompanied by "buddies" (JKU students and employees). The workshop focuses on MORE students and the story of their escape and current life in Austria. The 'buddies' talk about how they support integrating refugees.

The workshop provides a brief overview on the opportunities and risks as well as the external and secondary effects of media aimed at a teen’s life. Relevant media psychological theories and terminology are explored and there is illustrative insight into current research being conducted in the field. The workshop aims to find answers together such as: How is media-conveyed communication difference from direct ‘fact-to-face’ communication? What can we learn from tv shows and why do I remember more from a tv show than what I learn in class? What does my social media profile say about my personality?
