JKU Scientists Develop Edible Electronics

Whether it be digital cameras, notebooks, PCs, mobile phones, plasma televisions or game consoles, rapid development and a short shelf life is standard in the information and communications technology market. Electronic wastes (e-waste) and the enormous consumption of electricity and materials jeopardize our environment every day. Tighter regulations and demand are steering the market towards the development of “green electronics”, including energy, hazardous wastes, scrap waste and recycling. The JKU supports the movement and is one of the first universities worldwide to engage in developing electronics that can simply be disposed of in a compost heap, or if in a pinch, perhaps even be eaten.
