Project FIT "Women in Engineering and Technology" – Information Fair 2011 at the JKU

For the 12th year in a row, the FIT “Women in Engineering and Technology” Information Fair will take place at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) in Linz from February 14 – 15, 2011. The Information Fair is aimed at female school students in upper level classes as well as all women interested in learning more about the various academic degree programs available in the fields of engineering and natural sciences at the JKU and at the Universities of Applied Sciences in Upper Austria. Participation is free.

JKU Researchers Win Award in Japan for “sound/tracks”

Selected from over 2600 submissions, the art project “sound/tracks” won the award “Jury Recommended Work” at this year’s Japan Media Arts Festival in Tokyo and was presented at the National Arts Center in Tokyo. “Sound/tracks”, created at the JKU, captures visual impressions taken during a train ride and translates the images into a musical composition in real time.

Living Expenses Can Lead to Impoverishment

A recent study conducted by students at the Institute of Social and Societal Policy at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz shows that people who run the highest risk of poverty spend up to 40% of their monthly household budget to cover living and utility expenses. The Poverty Report 2010 revealed that this affects 13% of the population in Upper Austria, meaning over 180,000 people.

New Director of the JKU Alumni Association KEPLER SOCIETY

On February 1, 2011, Mag. Florian Hippesroither will replace Mag. Judith Raab, MBA as the new head of the Alumni Association (KEPLER SOCIETY) and JKU Career Center. Mag. Judith Raab, MBA, held the position for the past five years and will now pursue other interests.
