Wilhelm Macke Award 2011 Presented at the JKU

The best Diploma degree and Master degree theses submitted by graduates in the field of Physics during the 2009/2010 academic year at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) were presented with the Wilhelm Macke Award. The Wilhelm Macke Award, named after the founder of the degree program in Physics at the JKU, has been presented since 1997 in recognition of outstanding academic work.

JKU Honorary Doctorate Degree for Prof. Dr. Al Hartgraves

On Thursday April 28, Prof. Al Hartgraves, professor of Accounting at the Goizueta Business School at renowned Emory University in Atlanta and the LIMAK Austrian Business School’s premiere partner, was presented with an honorary doctorate degree by the Faculty of Social Sciences, Economics and Business at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz. Prof. Hartgraves was recognized and honored for his outstanding academic achievements in the field of Management Sciences, particularly in Financial and Managerial Accounting, and for his commitment to the partnership between the LIMAK Austrian Business School and Goizueta Business School at Emory University.

Handelsblatt and RePEc Ranking: JKU Economists Among Top Ranked in Europe

In the most recent ranking of economists by the trade paper Handelsblatt, a number of economists from the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) placed in the Top 100 (out of 500 research strong economists) in German-speaking Europe. The RePEc (Research Papers in Economics) ranked the Institute of Economics as the second research strongest faculty in Economics/Business in Austria. The Top 3 best Austrian authors in Economics/Business also stem from the Institute of Economics at the JKU.

New Methods in Manufacturing Hybrid Materials Sparks the Interest of an Internationally Renowned Chemistry Journal

Together with department head Univ.Prof. Dr. Oliver Brüggemann (Institute of Polymer Chemistry), Dr. Ivo Nischang and Dr. Ian Teasdale have developed new methods in the manufacturing of hybrid materials. This innovation in materials science research could enable a more simple, user friendly application in the execution of technical applications such as catalysis, chromatography or extraction. The worldwide leading chemistry journal “Angewandte Chemie - International Edition” deemed the paper an important and significant contribution, publishing the study under the status of “Very Important Paper”; a status attained by only 5% of submitted papers.

The JKU Ranks Among the Top 100 in Software Engineering

The research field of Software Engineering at the JKU was recently ranked 73rd by Microsoft Academic Search, a search engine for academic papers and resources principally in the field of computer science. In all, 2,804 institutions were evaluated according to the number of publications and citations. Subsequently, this means the JKU is among the top 3% in worldwide research in this field.

JKU Professor Ranked 14 Among the Top 100 International Materials Scientists

o.Univ.Prof. Dr. Niyazi Serdar Sariciftci, head of the Linz Institute for Organic Solar Cells (LIOS) and the Institute of Physical Chemistry, was recently ranked 14th in an international special report listing the top 100 high-impact materials scientists. From a series of Austrian universities, he was the only Austrian professor listed in the ranking. The assessment criteria was the number of citations divided by scientific publications in the "Materials Science Community" (articles and reviews) published in the past ten years.
