The JKU Continues to Grow: Expansion of RISC at the JKU Software Park in Hagenberg

The Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz continues its growth both on and off campus: the Research Institute for Symbolic Computation (RISC) will soon be housed in larger quarters. A new 700 m2 building along the castle pond will provide additional office space, classrooms, and an electronic library. The construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2012.

20 Year Anniversary of the Institute for Integrated Studies – A 20 Year Success Story

Since its beginnings 20 years ago at the JKU, the Institute for Integrated Studies has focused intensely on the integration and support of physically disabled and disadvantaged students on campus. For the past two decades, great efforts have been made to make the campus handicap accessible and create equal opportunity for the impaired in regard to teaching and research. To date, the institute has assisted over 140 students and today, 60 individuals in various majors and with different degrees of physical impairment are at the JKU. Today, the Institute for Integrated Studies is well-established, both in Austria and abroad. A success story duly celebrated in an official ceremony at the JKU.

High Profile Polymer Conference Held for the First Time at the JKU Linz

In the framework of research cooperation between the IEA (International Energy Agency), the Austrian Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT) and the organizers at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) - the Institute of Polymeric Materials and Testing (IPMT) and the Institute for Sustainable Technologies (AEE INTEC) Gleisdorf –guests were invited to an international polymer conference titled “Kunststoffe als Wachstumsmotor für die Solarthermie – Neue Technologieoptionen auf der Basis von Polymerwerkstoffen”. The conference was held for the first time in Linz and included over 100 participants in the fields of research and industrial development from Austria, Germany, Belgium, and Norway.

International Accreditation for Business Informatics

The JKU has its first international accredited degree programs: The Bachelor and Master’s degree programs in Business Informatics have been presented with a seal of quality for a period of five years as is by the Agency of Quality Assurance through Accreditation of Degree Programs (AQAS e.V.).

Rectorate Appointed from 2011 to 2015

The new Rectorate at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz is set: At today’s meeting, University Council chairman Dr. Ludwig Scharinger appointed four Vice Rectors who, together with re-elected Rector Prof. Richard Hagelauer, will serve official terms of office from October 1, 2011 to September 30, 2015. The committee approved the recommendations submitted by Rector Hagelauer.

Forward Thinking Software System in Control Centers Prevents Traffic Congestion

Scientists at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz have developed a software system for use at control centers designed to independently anticipate potential, critical situations in road traffic and provide suggestions to prevent traffic congestion. In cooperation with team Communication Technology Management Ltd. (a branch of the Frequentis Group), and with implementation support by ASFINAG, and the Austrian Research Society (FIT-IT Semantic Systems), project BeAware! was funded with a total of €430,000.
