New Distance Learning Master’s Programs this Fall at the JKU

Degree programs for working professionals and in cooperation with the JKU Linz and the FernUniversität in Hagen are becoming increasingly popular. Over 2800 Austrian students are involved in online programs which are managed by the Distance Learning Center located directly at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz. For the first time, the JKU will also offer graduate degrees in Psychology and Computer Science. The enrollment deadline for the coming semester is August 15 and Information Sessions will take place in Linz and Steyr on July 5th and 6th.

Wittgenstein Award 2012 Presented to Prof. Sariciftci, JKU

On Tuesday, June 12, 2012, world class researcher Niyazi Serdar Sariciftci, professor of Physical Chemistry at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz, was presented with the 2012 Wittgenstein Award by Karlheinz Töchterle (Austrian Minister of Science and Research) and Christoph Kratky (President of the Austrian Science Funds). Prof. Sariciftci was honored for his groundbreaking research in the field of organic semiconductors. The JKU researcher’s work will now be funded in the coming five to six years with 1.5 million Euros per year. He continues the JKU’s tradition for excellence as JKU Prof. Gerhard Widmer (Institute for Computational Perception) was also presented with the Wittgenstein Award in 2009. The Wittgenstein Award is Austria’s largest and most prestigious research award and has been awarded by the Austrian Science Fund on behalf of the Austrian Ministry of Science and Research since 1996.

JKU Approves Imposing Tuition

Tuition fees will be imposed at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz beginning Winter Semester 2012/2013. During a meeting on June 5, the University Senate approved a motion of amendment submitted by the Rectorate. The imposed fees in the amount of €363.36 per semester will apply to non-EU citizens and to students who have exceeded the minimum amount of time required to complete a degree program by two semesters.

Inaugural Lecture by Prof. Marcus Gräser at the JKU, Faculty of Social Sciences, Economics and Business

On Monday, June 4, 2012, Univ.Prof. Dr. Marcus Gräser (Institute of Modern and Contemporary History) held his inaugural lecture at the Johannes Kepler University Linz. Over 100 guests were in attendance at the Rep. Rooms on campus for a lecture traditionally held by newly appointed professors.
