Software Engineering at the JKU Ranks among Top 50 Universities Worldwide

Microsoft Academic Search (a public search engine for academic papers and literature in the field of computer science) recently globally ranked research and teaching in the Software Engineering program at the Department of Computer Sciences (Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz) at #34.

Academic Assessment Testing at the JKU for Graduating High School Students

Many high school graduates find themselves trying to figure out their options for the future. Many of these graduates intend to pursue a university degree but the process to find the right degree program can sometimes mean a high drop-out rate and wasting precious time trying to find the right program. Since 1991, the Office of Academic Advising at the Institute for Pedagogy and Psychology has offered assessment testing at the JKU for students in their last year of secondary school. This semester, assessment testing will be held from February 10 – 13, 2014 and will provide information on the various degree programs offered at the JKU.

JKU Alumni Association KEPLER SOCIETY - New Managing Director

On February 1, 2014, Mag. Johannes Pracher will take over the management of the Johannes Kepler University’s alumni association KEPLER SOCIETY and the Career Center. Mr. Pracher follows Mag. Florian Hippesroither who, after three years in the position, will be changing careers.

Inaugural Lectures by Prof. Baumgartner and Prof. Huemer

On Monday, January 20, 2014, the JKU extended an invitation to attend inaugural lectures by Univ. Prof. Dr. Werner Baumgartner (Institute for Medical Mechatronics) and Univ. Prof. Dr. Mario Huemer (Institute of Signal Processing). Over 100 guests were in attendance at the university Rep. Rooms for the inaugural lecture tradition.

“We All Are JKU” – 2014 JKU University Ball

For the first time, this year’s Johannes Kepler University Ball on January 17 was about its employees and students. This year’s theme: "We All Are JKU" featured many memorable highlights including a large classical music and pop music opening number, a unique midnight show full of university spirit and non-stop music played throughout the Brucknerhaus.

School of Medicine: The JKU Pleased with Recent Ministerial Decision

Today’s ministerial decision on a 15a agreement between the Austrian federal government and the state of Upper Austria is yet another step towards establishing a School of Medicine at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz. The last step is now a pending decision by the National Council. In the meantime, preparations for the start of the program are in full swing.

Breakthrough in Transistor Development: JKU Researchers Use Access to Synchrotron

High tech tools and instruments are sometimes necessary to conduct modern research. Certain equipment and facilities can be very expensive and beyond the funding of some universities. Thanks to collaboration with major European research facilities, the JKU was given access to a synchrotron and can use the giant machines to track even the smallest particles. JKU researchers also applied their collective expertise to actively participate in the development of high-end equipment.
