Closing Ceremony "MiT-JiP: Girls in Engineering – Boys in Education" Program

The closing ceremony for the “MiT-JiP Mädchen in die Technik – Jungen in die Pädagogik” program took place at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz on Friday, November 21, 2014. The one and a half year long project (June 2013 – December 2014) was organized by the Dept. of Affirmative Action and Polices for Equal Opportunity at the JKU in cooperation with the Office of Women’s Affairs at the University of Passau. The program was a part of the EU program “INTERREG Bayern-Österreich 2007-2013”.

Medical Faculty’s Animated Video Wins Film Award

The awards ceremony for the 5th annual Film Forum Linz - a competition of the best advertising and business films in Austria - took place on November 17, 2014 at the Upper Austrian Chamber of Economics. An expert panel of judges viewed 111 submissions from throughout Austria and nominated 23 films in six categories (image films, corporate videos, technology films, tourism films, spots, Future – The Young Film). The animated video made by the new Medical Faculty at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz won in the category of “Corporate Video”: www.jku.at/humanmedizin

Teaching Plastic Film How to See

In 2013, the Institute of Computer Graphics of the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz presented the world’s first flexible and transparent image sensor to the public. The head of institute, Prof. Oliver Bimber, and his team have now developed an innovative machine-learning technique that enables the reconstruction of almost needle-sharp images.

Sociable Cells: JKU Scientists Explore Cell Adhesion

66 departments and institutes are currently conducting medical and medically-related research at Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz. One of these institutes is the Institute of Medical and Bio-Mechatronics under the direction of Prof. Werner Baumgartner. He and his team are looking to uncover the secrets of cell adhesion.

Ex-World Bank Chief Economist at the 17th Rothschild Presentation at the JKU

Standing room only at the 17th Annual Rothschild Lecture at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz on November 5, 2014 as former World Bank chief economist, Prof. Francois Bourguignon, spoke about globalization being responsible for unequal wealth distribution. His presentation was titled “Globalisation of Inequality”.

Invitation to Attend a Presentation by Prof. Alexej Jerschow

On November 11, Prof. Alexej Jerschow, Professor of Chemistry at New York University, will hold a presentation at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz titled "Imaging Sodium and Chemical Exchange with MRI: Opportunities in the Joint and in the Brain". Alexej Jerschow, an Austrian abroad and JKU graduate, accepted an invitation Prof. Günther Knör (Institute of Inorganic Chemistry) and Prof. Norbert Müller (Institute for Organic Chemistry) to speak at his "home university".
