JKU Vice Rector for Research Receives ACM Computer Science Award

Prof. Gabriele Anderst-Kotsis, Vice Rector for Research at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz, was presented with the renowned "ACM Distinguished Scientists Award" in December 2014 for her outstanding research in the field of Computer Sciences. The award is among the most internationally renowned awards in the field of Computer Sciences.

"JKU Master's Day powered by ÖH" – Comprehensive Information on Master's Degree Programs at the JKU

The Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz offers 35 graduate degree programs in various fields of study. The first ever graduate study fair will take place at Upper Austria's largest educational institution and feature JKU experts on hand to talk with prospective students about graduate studies at the JKU. The graduate study fair "JKU Master's Day powered by ÖH" will take place on December 11 at the JKU Science Park.

Jury of High School Students Declare Hannes Bachmayr (Linz) the Winner of the 2014 Adolf Adam Computer Science Award

The fourth annual Adam Adolf Computer Science Award for the best Master's degree thesis during the last academic year took place at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz on December 18, 2014. Three finalists presented their work in front of an audience of 300 school students from 11 schools in Upper Austria who also served as the jury. Students voted for their favorite presentation by text message. Hannes Bachmayr from Linz emerged as the clear winner with his thesis titled "Komponentenbasierte Spielentwicklung"

Kick-Off for the 2015 JKU Young Scientists Program – Over 110 Young Researchers Embark on a Scientific Adventure

Gifted children do not often recognize the potential of their talents and the JKU Young Scientists program provides an opportunity for young students to develop their potential. Upper Austria's largest, most comprehensive program for gifted upper level students at AHS and BHS schools provides an opportunity to learn from experts at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz. The 6th year of program is underway and over 100 'young scientists' have registered to take part.

500 Personal Consultations during the "2014 JKU Master's Day powered by ÖH JKU“ Graduate Study Fair

The first ever graduate study fair, "JKU Master's Day powered by ÖH JKU" took place on Thursday, December 11, 2014. The graduate study fair was well attended as visitors learned more about the 35 graduate degree programs offered at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz. Over 500 visitors personally spoke with JKU academic staff about degree programs and took tours of the labs, workshops, and technical institutes. The program was extensive and featured high-profile presentations and panel discussions.

Vocational Education: JKU Study Verifies Motivational Influence on Academic Achievement for the First Time

When it comes to the topic of school, structural reforms are usually at the top of the list. Dr. Christoph Helm (Institute for Education and Psychology, Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz) has selected a different approach: He has studied the interaction of teacher behavior, motivation, and academic success. His work titled "Reziproke Effekte zwischen wahrgenommenem Lehrerverhalten, intrinsischer Lernmotivation und Schülerleistungen im Fach Rechnungswesen" explains learning in general and has won him the 2014 Austrian Science Award for research in occupational education.

Biomechatronics – What Frogs and Lizards Can Teach Us

Nature constantly changes and transitions, having implemented a selection process over the past billions of years. Many scientists and researchers - including Prof. Werner Baumgartner and his team at the Institute of Biomedical Mechatronics at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz - often find themselves inspired by the nature’s creative “inventions”. One area of research focuses on organisms and their environment, looking particularly at how frogs and lizards adhere to surfaces.

Austrian President Fischer Honors Outstanding Doctoral Students at the JKU

At a ceremony on Monday, December 1, 2014, Austrian President Heinz Fischer honored two doctoral candidates at the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz. Mag. (FH) Vera Roth received her doctorate degree in Social and Economic Sciences and Dipl. Ing. Mag.Mag.Mag. Gregor Kastner received his doctorate degree in Technical Sciences under the auspices of the President.
