Senate Decision regarding Three Candidates for the Position of Rector

At a meeting on January 27, 2015, the JKU University Senate selected three final candidates for the position of Rector. The Senate chairman agreed with and confirmed the selection committee’s list of proposed candidates. The JKU University Council will elect a new Rector at a meeting on February 9, 2015.

Making a Tough Choice Easy: Assessment Testing for Graduating High Schools Students Means 30% Fewer College Dropouts

The Office Academic Advising at the Institute for Pedagogy and Psychology (Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU) Linz) is once again inviting soon-to-be high school graduates in Upper Austria to take part in a unique assessment testing program designed to help students decide what kind of degree to pursue. The assessment testing program has been conducted annually since 1991 and includes a questionnaire on personality types as well as questions to determine if a student’s preferred area of study truly concurs with his/her interests and skills.

"2015 JKU Goes School": Enthusiastic School Newspaper Reporters could be Rewarded with €100

The Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz supports school and graduating class newspapers. Active school newspaper reporters who produce a school paper could apply for €100 in support funds.

How "Postal Workers" Support Cancer Research - JKU Chemist Wins "1st Science Slam Linz" with Research Presentation

The 1st Science Slam Linz took place on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at the Linz Posthof. In a casual and relaxed atmosphere, six early career scientists combined science communication and science entertainment to create a six-minute presentation showcasing their research work. The Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz not only partnered for the event but also had 5 contestants from the JKU taking part. Over 350 guests packed in at the Posthof and JKU chemist Markus Nadlinger (Institute of Organic Chemistry) won the crowd over with his presentation titled “Krebstherapie: die Post bringt allen was!”.

TN Inaugural Lectures Prof. Hinrichs and Prof. Mayrhofer

On January 19, 2015 the JKU extended an invitation to inaugural lectures by Prof. Aicke Hinrichs (Institute for Analysis) and Prof. René Mayrhofer (Institute for Networks and Security). The new JKU faculty members at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences held their traditional lecture in the JKU Rep. Rooms with over 180 guests in attendance.

"Colours of JKU" – 2015 JKU Ball

The yearly Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz Ball is one of the most highly praised, glamorous highlights of Upper Austria’s annual ball season. This year’s formal ball took place on January 16, 2015, attracting over 3000 guests to the Brucknerhaus in Linz. Science and research became a social event at the Brucknerhaus and guests enjoyed a night of dancing, entertainment, inspiration, and contagious creativity.

TN Tower Renovation and New JKU “Technikum” Building

Over the next few years over 25 million euros will be invested in improving the infrastructure of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences. Built in 1977/78, the TN Tower will be renovated by construction company Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft (BIG) at a cost of 21.4 million euros. Construction on the new JKU "Technikum" building (located behind the TN Tower, next to the Hochschulfond Bldg.) will begin in Spring 2015 at a total investment of 4.3 million euros.

JKU Computer Figures Could Help Stroke Patients

Language learning with the help of avatars: Dr. Manuela Macedonia (Institute of Business Informatics - Information Engineering, Johannes Kepler University (JKU) Linz) is a leading expert in the field and her research has made waves throughout Europe. Characters developed by Dr. Macedonia, “Heidi” and “John”, are now even being used in England for medical purposes.
