June 30: JKU Creates the Industrial Research Center Pro2Future

Products and production systems of the future are intelligent - and come from Upper Austria and Styria

"Products and Production Systems of the Future" > "Pro- Pro- Future" > "Pro2Future" has been reduced to one word addressing the challenges of future industrial systems. In cooperation with leading technical universities and international research facilities, industrial companies in Upper Austria and Styria are meeting the challenge by creating the first worldwide research center of its kind. The Austrian Research Promotion Agency, the Austrian Ministry of Science, Research and Economy, and the Austrian Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology have approved a COMET K1-Center project application coordinated by Univ. Prof. Alois Ferscha (Institute for Pervasive Computing, JKU). Beginning in 2017 and during the first four years, the Pro2Future Center will be financed with approximately €19 million euros and will work together with around 45 researchers.

June 24: Small Cause - Big Effect: New Methods to Increase Students' Willingness to Study

One can learn how to study but sometimes it can be hard to overcome one's "weaker self". Studies show that students in online learning programs in particular find it hard to motivate themselves to study. Researchers at the Johannes Kepler University and the Vienna University of Economics and Business have conducted research on what kinds of psychological tricks can significantly increase motivation.

June 23: Family-Friendly Company: JKU Presented with State Award

Completing a degree while raising a child? Advancing professionally and still being able to have a fulfilling family life? The Johannes Kepler University Linz provides work-life balance! June 20: The Johannes Kepler University Charts a New Direction

Rector Meinhard Lukas’ ambitious program will lead the JKU in a new strategic direction. Althouhg many important target goals have already been reached, there is still much to do. He asks all university employees for their commitment to support the new, bold steps. Rector Lukas will be presenting his plans to the University Senate for a vote. His policy decisions for the JKU will chart a new direction for the university.

June 20: JKU Vice-Rector for Human Resources, Diversity and IT Resigns Office

On June 30, 2016, Univ. Prof. Dr. Dorothea Greiling will resign her office as Vice-Rector of Human Resources, Diversity and IT and leave the JKU Rectorate. Prof. Greiling will return to her position and responsibilities as head of the Institute for Management Accounting. Rector Univ. Prof. Dr. Meinhard Lukas will take over on an interim basis until a successor can be selected.

June 15: 1.5 Millionen Euros for Quantum Research at the JKU

Assist. Prof. Dr. Rinaldo Trotta Ph.D. from the Johannes Kepler University Linz received a 1.5 million euro EU ERC Starting Grant for his work in quantum networks. His work will focus on secure communications.

June 9: Success at LIMAK Continues - 2015 is the LIMAK'S Most Successful Year in Its History

The LIMAK Austrian Business School surpassed its success of previous years and 2015 was the LIMAK's most successful year since it was founded 25 years ago. Since 1989, 780 executives have earned an MBA and/or graduate degree at the Business School. Adding the IN.TENSIVE and IN.SPIRE programs, over 8,700 people have sucessfully completed a LIMAK program. The number of students at the LIMAK has almost tripled from 2011 (359 participants) to 1,013 participants in 2015.

June 8: 7th International Race Across Upper Austria to Start at the JKU Campus

High performance cycling in Upper Austria from Thursday, June 16 to Sunday, June 19, 2016! 144 top cyclists from over 10 nations will compete at the 7th International Race Across Upper Austria. The race will begin at the Johannes Kepler University Linz and under the motto "JKU Gipfelstürmer", there will be special race results for JKU students and employees taking part in the race.

June 7: Industrial Power Plant for Research

A joint effort is underway to make the decommissioned power plant at the Tabakfabrik available for interdisciplinary teaching and research purposes. At one time, the power plant at Tabakfabrik Linz was powered by coal, then later using oil and gas. Today the idea is to apply innovative approaches and create “smart energy” for the future. In the spirit of the way the power station was used in the past, it will now serve as a unique location for scientific projects, creativity, experiments, and an exchange of information between universities, various scientific and academic disciplines, and industrial practices.

June 6: Hans Riegel Awards Ceremony

In cooperation with the State Education Authority of Upper Austria and the Kaiserschild Foundation, the Johannes Kepler University Linz presented the sixth annual Dr. Hans Riegel Awards on Thursday, June 2, 2016, in recognition of outstanding academic achievement by school students. The number of submissions increased this year from past years.
