December 30: “How to Escape the NSA?” – JKU Presents Awards to Young Computer Scientists

At an awards ceremony at the JKU, four JKU graduates received the Adolf Adam Computer Science Award. Martin Hengstberger won first place for his Master’s degree thesis titled “Wie entkommt man der NSA? – Daten am Handy verstecken”. As in the past, the jury consisted of higher level schools students from schools throughout Upper Austria.

December 26: As Europe Ages: EU Members Conduct Research in Growing Network

In the future, the challenges of Europe‘s aging society can be better understood and managed. The SHARE study has been extended to include additional EU member countries. The Austrian coordinator is the Institute of Economics at the Johannes Kepler University. The Ministry of Science and Social Affairs is funding the project with approximately 1.1 million Euros. The study is currently in its seventh data collection wave (2017 and 2018).

December 16: “A New Kind of University”: JKU Anniversary Book

Founded in 1966 as “new kind of university”, the Johannes Kepler University anniversary book takes on this title to not only look back at the university’s past 50-year history, but to related events further back in time. The first volume of the publication series explores the university’s origins dating back to the 16th century, its inception, and the subsequent developments over the years that culminate to the latest addition, the Faculty of Medicine

December 8: 50 Years and Going Strong: The JKU Ball on January 20

The JKU Anniversary Ball on January 20, 2017, at the Brucknerhaus in Linz will celebrate the university’s 50th anniversary. JKU Rector Meinhard Lukas remarked, “Guests can expect an exciting evening of retrospect, insight, and a look ahead.”
