May 31: Celebrating the Next Generation of Researchers: Dr. Hans Reigel Awards

The Dr. Hans Riegel Awards were presented to the next generation of researchers and scientists in recognition of outstanding pre-academic papers. This year, the Kaiserschild Foundation and the State Education Authority of Upper Austria also accepted pre-academic papers in the fields of biology and computer science, resulting in an increase in the number of submissions.

May 29: An Economic Analysis - The JKU is a Driving Force for Business and Jobs

The Johannes Kepler University, a Driving Force for Business and Jobs: A study conducted by o.Univ.-Prof. Dr.Dr.hc.mult. Friedrich Schneider (Institute for Economics) defined a number of parameters, including student spending, public expenditure on capital (investment), personnel expenses, and the induced purchasing power through the JKU’s shared holdings. Univ. Prof. Friedrich Schneider concluded, "The economic value-added potential is considerable.”

May 24: STEP>One: JKU Helps Develop Start-Ups

STEP>one celebrated a successful debut on Wednesday in support of entrepreneurship as the Johannes Kepler University hosted budding entrepreneurs, successful start-up companies, and potential investors. The casual networking event showcased entrepreneurs of tomorrow and gave the JKU an opportunity to assert its role as a university that works closely with regional businesses.

May 23: JKU University Council: Andrea Wesenauer is the New Deputy Chairperson

Mag. Dr. Andrea Wesenauer, Director of the Regional Health Insurance Fund of Upper Austria, has been unanimously elected the new Deputy Chairperson of the JKU University Council. She follows Mag. Eva Belabed, MBA, who resigned her position for personal reasons.

May 19: Faster Healing Using Artificial Nerves

Together with research facilities in Upper Austria, scientists at the Johannes Kepler University have developed a regeneration procedure using artificial nerve cells to help rapidly regenerate damaged tissue. The revolutionary approach has now been recognized as one of the best business ideas in Life Sciences at an international competition.

May 3: The JKU Senate Strongly Rejects New Proposal to Finance Study Places

The University Senate at the Johannes Kepler University Linz has looked carefully at the plans for model to finance study places. The proposed distribution of funds was unanimously rejected during a special session. The proposed budget allocation would not only slow the JKU’s current development process down, it threatens the JKU’s existence in its current form.
