September 28: All in White: Welcome Ceremony for JKU Medical Students

The "White Coat Ceremony": Students in the medical degree program at the Johannes Kepler University Linz symbolically slipped on their white doctor’s coats for the first time during this year’s Welcome Day events. Univ. Prof. DDr. Andrea Olschewski, Vice-Rector at the Johannes Kepler University, is pleased about the great interest in the Faculty of Medicine and emphasized, “New standards are being set in Linz – both in teaching and in research.”

September 25: The New LIT Advisory Board: Strong Network for Engineering in Linz

The newly appointed LIT Advisory Board will ensure that the JKU technological center for research and teaching can build on a strong network. As a top representative in science and business, voestalpine CEO Wolfgang Eder will serve as Board Chairman and lend his valuable expertise.

September 20: Looking To the Future: Studies Information Fair at the JKU

Approximately 4,000 students in graduating high school classes will be at the Johannes Kepler University beginning today, tomorrow, and Friday. The 18th annual Studies Information Fair provides young people with an opportunity to learn more about all of the educational opportunities available to them in Upper Austria after graduation.

September 18: Studies Info Fair at the JKU: School Students Get a Taste of Campus Life

The 18th annual Studies Information Fair (SIM) will provide young people with an opportunity to learn more about all of the educational opportunities available to them after graduation as well as get useful information to help decide what kind of higher level education to pursue.

September 11: Sepp Hochreiters LSTM: Computer Glances Into the Future of "Game of Thrones"

The use of long short-term memory (LSTM) makes digital systems capable of learning. Sepp Hochreiter, Univ. Prof. at the Johannes Kepler University Linz, and Jürgen Schmidhuber have fine-tuned this technology, using it for speech recognition. There are other areas of application as well: LSTM is also being used to predict how the plot of television series "Game of Thrones" will continue. As reported by the German newspaper "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" (FAZ), a computer has written the sixth volume of the fantasy epic using the technology.

September 7: Linz Economics Shine in the Latest "Handelsblatt" Ranking

Outstanding recognition at the Johannes Kepler University: The doyen of Economics in Linz, Univ. Prof. Friedrich Schneider heads the Austrian list of the recent ranking "Handelsblatt-VWL-Rankings 2017" (Category: Current Research Achievements). Univ. Prof. Rudolf Winter-Ebmer and Univ. Prof. Martin Halla (recently appointed at the JKU) also placed at the top of the list.
