The Cauldron Award at the JKU: Cafeteria Food Receives Another Medal

Restaurants receive stars for excellent food quality and canteen kitchens like the JKU cafetera receive cauldrons. The kitchen team of the JKU cafeteria lead by Manager Alexander Schedl and Kitchen Chef Franz “Xandl” Schmidbauer is very pleased to have received three cauldrons at this year’s Cauldron Awards ceremony.

Increasing Juvenile Crime Rate: No Lowering of Age of Criminal Responsibility Necessary

For the past few years, the youth crime rate in Austria has steadily increased. The results from a symposia on the topic “Young People Between Reaction and Sanctions” at the JKU have concluded that although many advocates demand the age of criminal responsibility be lowered, this will not solve the problem. It is more important that judiciary system, police, social welfare workers and social pedagogy work well together and continually cooperation.

IR-ON: An Additional 1.6 Million Euros for Research at the JKU

In cooperation with the University of Engineering in Vienna, the University of Engineering in Munich, the University of Vienna and the University of Jena, the JKU is actively involved in a special research area called IR-ON (Infrared Optical Nanostructures) by the Austrian Science Fund. The project addresses the analysis and development of components in the infrared area. JKU is currently researching five of the eleven projects and within the next three years, the Austrian Science Fund will make an additional 1.6 million Euros available for the projects.
