Recreational Activities In and Around Linz
The area surrounding Linz offers numerous recreational opportunities including an unforgettable trip cycling the bike path along the banks of the Danube from Passau to Vienna. Pleschingersee, a lake located in close proximity to the university, is a popular outdoor location during the warm spring and summer months. If you are looking for sports events or sports clubs and associations, please see: http://www.linz.at/english/tourism/
During the winter, a large number of ski resorts can be reached easily within an hour or two by car. During the summer, the many clean, clear lakes located throughout the Salzkammergut region are ideal for those interested in water sports.
Adventuresome individuals can enjoy hang gliding in Windischgarsten, explore caves in the Dachstein region, enjoy white water rafting on the Steyr River, or climb Alpine peaks. The area surrounding Linz is filled with beautiful monasteries and churches. The gentle, rolling landscape of the Mühlviertel region with it's forests, fields, farms, and orchards is ideal for extended bike trips or hiking.
