Linz & the Surrounding Area
With a population of 191,767, Linz is Austria's third largest city. Embedded in the picturesque Danube Valley and surrounded by rolling green hills, Linz has a unique flair all its own. Students can stroll through the old quarter and enjoy the picturesque buildings, visit the Linz castle located above the city and visit Austria's oldest church, Martinskirche, dating back 1,200 years.
Linz has a long-standing tradition as an important diocese which resulted in the construction of numerous churches located throughout the city. The famous Upper Austrian composer and organist Anton Bruckner played regularly in the Old Cathedral.
The pastel tones of the Baroque and Rococo facades on the Main Square and the carefully renovated “old town” provide striking contrasts to the city’s modern industrial and commercial centres. Linz combines modernism with tradition; natural green areas, parks and greenbelts are scattered throughout the city and offer numerous opportunities to relax or enjoy recreational activities.
