Computer Eyeglasses

These days, computers are an indispensible part of working in an office. However, those who spend the majority of time working on a computer screen can experience a lack of concentration, fatigue, eye strain and headaches.

In April 1998, regulations were implemented in Austria in regards to computer/terminal work. These regulations identify and define the minimum requirements for working at a computer terminal.
Regulations state that employees have a right to regular eye testing and, if required, may obtain a pair of computer eyeglasses.
The computer screen should be positioned approximately 60- 90 cm from your eyes.

How Do I Get Computer Eyeglasses for Work?

1. Make an appointment for a medical eye examination (vision test) with the JKU company physician Dr. Monika Zajac-Zöchbauer (dial
Ext. 4469). (THE EYE EXAMINATION MUST BE CONDUCTED BY THE COMPANY PHYSICIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

2. After the examination, Dr. Zajac-Zöchbauer will determine if an additional eye examination by an optometrist is required or if you can go directly to an optician store to obtain the computer eyeglasses.

3. Any additional costs for an ERG test at an optometrist’s office will be paid for by the Dept. of Employee Protection and Safety.

4. Please note: as the agreement is ONLY with Optik ORSO, at this time you may ONLY get the computer glasses at this particular optician store.

5. When picking up your computer eyeglasses at the optician store, you must present your KeplerCard (which includes your personnel ID number). The optician store will send the bill directly to the Dept. of Employee Protection and Safety at the JKU.
As the costs for a pair of standard computer eyeglasses are covered under the regulations for work completed on computers, additional charges to upgrade the frames will not be covered; only the standard pair will be covered. You can pay out-of-pocket for an upgrade.
