"Open your device and be online"

eduroam stands for EDUcation ROAMing and and under this motto has brought many organizations together throughout Europe and beyond Europe's borders so that all members can access wifi services.

Signing Into eduroam

All you need is a wireless supported device that supports a WPA2 encryption and an active JKU user ID.

In order to create international allocation, @jku.at will be added to your username.

Example: ak109999@jku.at or k0815471@jku.at. (Note: this is NOT an e-mail address!)

Use your e-Directory password that you use to access KUSSS, Novell, etc.

If eduroam is set up correctly on your device, it should connect automatically at the Johannes Kepler University Linz as well as outside of the university when at a participating organization that also uses eduroam.

For security reasons, the eduroam network at the Johannes Kepler University Linz is only supported by WPA2 encryption. Old devices that only have a WEP or WPA(1) encryption will not be able to access eduroam. In this case, we ask that you use the unencrypted guest network with the SSID "JKU".

Instructions & User Support Services

The eduroam certificate at the JKU is under the name "eduroam.jku.at" and is signed by Terena and DigiCert. Your device will most likely ask if you trust the certificate.

There are many helpful support services available at: http://cat.eduroam.org to help with the installation on your device. Under "Institution", select the JKU (the link has already been pre-selected) and it will automatically offer the right support service for your device. We recommend this procedure and it is noted and described in the instructions. This will help ensure that your device is configured safely and completely.
If you are experiencing sporadic problems using wifi, please use a current manufacturer's driver for the wireless adapter.

We have prepared the following instructions for you:

If you have any questions, please contact the Service Desk at Information Management.

Certificate Details

If you wish to install the certificate on a device not listed, you can find all corresponding certificates to create a connection here. The certificate will be visible when trying to connect. Please ensure that the certificate matches one of the following fingerprints:

  • application/x-x509-ca-certDigiCert Assured ID Root CA (1KB, SHA1 Fingerprint=05:63:B8:63:0D:62:D7:5A:BB:C8:AB:1E:4B:DF:B5:A8:99:B2:4D:43)

IPv6

"eduroam" at the JKU is an IPv4/IPv6 dual stack network. This means that you can already use the IPv6 internet protocol in the future provided your device supports it.

Using "eduroam" at Other Universities

  • Your JKU user rights not only work within the eduroam network at the Johannes Kepler University Linz, but also within the eduroam networks at other institutions that use eduroam (such as at the University of Vienna, the TU Munich, the Universidad de Córdoba in Spain, or even at Harvard University in the USA). You can find a list of participating countries and institutions on the official eduroam homepage.
  • User IDs for other participating organizations also work in the Johannes Kepler University's eduroam network.

Information for External "eduroam" Users at the JKU
