Domain Name Service (DNS)

The Domain Name System (DNS) is one of the most important services in the internet. Its main task is replying to inquiries in regards to name resolution.

In much the same way that telephone directory services function, per request and according to host or service name (i.e. www.jku.at), the Domain Name Server sends back answers in regards to allocated IP addresses (the "connection number" - i.e. 140.78.3.23).

In order to use the Domain Server Name "Johannes Kepler University", for example, you would have to enter the IP addresses 140.78.2.62 und 140.78.3.62 as a Domain Name Server in the network settings of your operating system.

Please note that you can only use the Domain Name Server from the JKU network area.
