Austrian Funding Programs

aws - Austrian Economic Service (austria wirtschaftsservice)

The Austrian Economic Service is 100% owned by the state and represented by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Transportation, Innovation and Technology (bmvit) and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Economy, Family and Youth (BMWFJ).

CDG - Christian Doppler Research Association

The Christian Doppler Research Association funds development in the areas of natural sciences, technology and economy as well as for their economic implementation and utilization. Cooperation with companies and research facilities ensure that new scientific results in the area of industrial production are passed on and in turn, base knowledge research is stimulated by real-world practices. Funds provided by the business community to support CD labs are matched in double by the CDG in the context of the “Matching Funds” program; SME's can attain even higher amounts of funding.

FFG - Austrian Research Promotion Agency (Österreichische Forschungsförderungsgesellschaft mbH)

The FFG - Austrian Research Promotion Agency is an Austrian funding center for application oriented and business related research in Austria.
The FFG aims to strengthen the cooperation between Austrian businesses and research institutions. There is also a broad spectrum of additional services ranging from advising and information centers, contact and networking opportunities, and technology conveying activities to networking initiatives in the European and international research scene.

FFG and International Programmes: The FFG is the national contact point for H2020 / FP7 as well as for other programmes on an international level.

FWF – Austrian Science Fund (Funding for Academic and Scientific Research)

The FWF – Austrian Science Fund is a very important financial resource in support of base-knowledge research in all subject areas. In addition, having a project approved by the FWF is also recognition of excellence for an applicant who, on one hand, has undergone a rigorous and internationally recognized assessment procedure conducted by highly reputable international scientists and academics, and, on the other hand, of which only a part of a well assessed project can (or will be) funded.

Austrian Science Fund and international Programs/Mobility: One of the Austrian Science Funds founding principles is focusing on international scientific standards and supporting cooperation efforts across national borders.

Climate and Energy Fund

The Climate and Energy Fund was set up by the Austrian government (Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology and Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management) in 2007 with the aim to develop new, innovative methods of climate protection and introduce a sustainable energy policy. It funds climate protection and energy projects with a research, mobliity and market penetration focus. Sustainability and efficiency are the cornerstones of all of its measures.

OeAD - Austrian Agency for International Mobility and Cooperation (Der Österreichische Austauschdienst)

The Austrian Agency for International Mobility and Cooperation provides advising services for the following programs:

ÖAW - Austrian Academy of Sciences (Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften)

The Austrian Academy of Sciences is a leading national support organization for external university academic research.

ÖFG - Austrian Research Society

Funding Programs: Print Cost Allowances and International Communication  (Neues Fenster) (Print cost allowances primarily for non-established scientists/academics who have fewer opportunities to finance printing services. International communications funding primarily for junior scientists/academics providing fund to travel abroad as well as funds to invite academics/scientists who do not have the resources from other organizations to travel to Austria.)

OeNB - the Austrian National Bank

“Jubilee Funds to fund Research and Teaching in Science”  (Neues Fenster) (Special funds have been made available since 1966 for top-quality academic work completed in certain areas.)

The Future Fund of the Republic of Austria

Modern and Contemporary History, Economic History, and Social History: "The Future Fund of the Republic of Austria funds projects that serve the interests and memory of victims of the Nazi regime, the memory of the threat of totalitarian systems and despotism, and international cooperation to support respect for human rights and mutual tolerance in these areas as well as provides financial aid for academic work on this topic."
Submitted projects should focus on a scientific, historical (including a historical socio-economic aspect) and/or educational character.
