Graduate Program: Financial Management

Program Objectives:
The use of buzzwords in business and financial management nowadays such as “globalization”, “shareholder value”, etc., increased complexities in banking which now link banking and the insurance industry (one-stop financial services), plus the growing significance of internationalization, makes theoretical and applied knowledge in these fields a high priority for well education specialists and managers. Improved skills in key areas of finance can significantly benefit a company’s economic position as well as its competitive advantage over other businesses.

The post graduate program in Financial Management is aimed at managers from mid-size businesses, banks, insurance companies and public service offices as well as independent consultants. The program has been designed to convey knowledge, abilities, and skills in corporate finance and banking by focusing on application oriented education. The program focuses concretely and intensely on base-knowledge economics and business, financial accounting as well as corporate and insolvency laws in operative and strategic Financial Management from all facets; the program also provides an overview of the stock market, securities and bond management, as well as banking and the insurance industry.

Specialized knowledge on tools, their correlation, theoretical fundament and especially the targeted, applicable use of these tools cannot be underestimated when it comes to creating a competitive advantage. The idea is to support and make Austria – as well as the area of Upper Austria in particular – an attractive business location.

The post-graduate degree program in Financial Management is aimed at:

  1. Graduates of universities and universities of applied sciences
  2. Senior staff at medium-sized companies, at banks, insurance companies as well as in the public sector and
  3. Independently employed individuals (such as in the financial services sector)

The program is mainly didactic ensuring that theoretical knowledge is linked to actual practices, allowing students to directly apply what they have learned in the classroom to real-world situations

Admission Requirements:
(1) Applicants applying for admission to the post-graduate degree program must have successfully completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, Diploma degree or a comparable degree program and show proof of at least one year of professional experience in the field.
(2) Applicants who do not meet the academic prerequisites as stated in Sec. 1 may be admitted if open spots are available in the program and if the applicant can show documented proof of comparable qualifications such as a minimum of two years of professional work experience in the field (including unfinished studies and/or short continual education programs).
(3) Applicants admitted to the program in accordance with Sec. 2 may only make up a maximum of 50% of the total number of admitted students.
(4) More qualified applicants in the field will be given preference. The final decision will be rendered by the Vice Rector of Teaching upon recommendation of the program’s Academic Director.

(5) In order to begin a new program, a minimum number of participants is required. Admission will become official once the minimum number has been attained.
