Women in Engineering (Frauen in die Technik)

FIT – Frauen in die Technik Oberösterreich - Women in Engineering / Upper Austria - is a project supported by the Department of Gender & Diversity at the Johannes Kepler University Linz and provides information, support services, and academic advising services to encourage and assist young women considering an academic degree in engineering.

  • FIT points out appealing aspects of engineering studies to young women.
  • FIT features women with established engineering careers in the forefront, helps to establish professional contacts, and creates a professional image young women can identify with.
  • FIT helps to inform young women about academics in engineering and natural sciences at the JKU and at universities of applied sciences (Fachhochschulen) in Upper Austria through lectures at various polytechnic high schools, at study fairs, as well as offering individual academic advising services.
  • FIT invites pupils and young women to the annual “FIT Open House” held at the JKU campus on the Monday and Tuesday before the semester break week in February. This event includes various informative presentations on degree programs in engineering and natural sciences as well as tours of various institutes, hands-on sessions in the labs, and even an opportunity to conduct experiments.

FIT seeks to expand the number of professional options and choices for young women, encourages young women to consider engineering studies, and supports access to technical fields of study. FIT also aims to create better job opportunities, better prospects of higher income and career advancement through engineering studies. Additional information can be found on the following website:
