INFORMATION ABOUT LANGUAGE COURSES AND LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT BEG. WS 2016/2017

Beginning WS 2016/2017 there will be some changes regarding the completion of language courses at the JKU

Basic courses in Spanish, French and Italian will be subject to fees. As before, students can register for these courses via KUSSS.

Bachelor's Degree in Business Economics

Beginning WS 2016/2017, students in the Bachelor's degree program in Business and Economics who have not yet successfully completed the Introduction and Orientation phase (StEOP) and - providing the courses are available - may only complete those language courses required to attain the respective entry level of that course. Therefore, students may no longer complete the course "Kommunikative Fertigkeiten Englisch" before having passed all StEOP requirements

The following applies to students who have chosen to learn a business language other than English but who have not yet completed corresponding courses before the beginning of WS 2016/2017,

  • The second business language is comprised only of courses in the amount of 12 ECTS credits

  • The entry level for business languages studies in French, Italian and Spanish are the same for all students and set at "Mittelstufe (Level 1)" and courses taken to attain this level can only be considered as a part of autonomous coursework

  • The entry level for business language studies in Russian, Czech, and Chinese are the same for all students and set at "Anfänger (Level 0)"

  • The right to decide to pursue a certain foreign language depends on how many of those courses are offered

  • The supplementary business language classes have been cancelled

  • As the second business language requirements have been reduced by 6 ECTS credits, the resulting difference can be compensated by completing "Vertiefung der Kernkompetenzen aus Betriebswirtschaftslehre" in the amount of 12 (instead of only 6) ECTS credits or completing courses in the field of Business at the level of a specialized subject as part of a semester abroad program in the amount of 24 (instead of only 18) ECTS credits
