German - Preparation Course

Who is responsible for the preparation courses?

The preparation courses are organized and offered by the JKU Center for Business Languages and Intercultural Communication.

How do I sign up for courses?

Registration period for Winter Semester 2017/18: September 4, 2017 – September 22, 2017

Sign up for the preparation courses online via KUSSS (www.kusss.jku.at).


Are there any costs or fees?

There are fees to take the preparation courses.

You will be officially registered in the selected course once payment has been received. The course fee is €30 per semester hour per week. For example, a course that is 6 semester hours per week, such as Basic Level I, will cost a total of €180. You can play via online-banking, by credit card, PayPal, or by using a bank pay-in slip.

You may not change courses once you have signed up for a course!


What course levels are available?

The following course levels as preparation for the supplementary examination are offered:

Basic Level:

  • German as a Foreign Language – Basic Level I (Level A1.2), 6 hrs/week, 6 ECTS credits
  • German as a Foreign Language – Basic Level II (Level A2.1), 6 hrs/week, 6 ECTS credits

The courses "Grundstufe I" and "Grundstufe II" cannot be attended simultaneously!

Intermediate:

  • German – Phonetics, 1 hr/week, 1 ECTS credit
  • German as a Foreign Language – Intermediate I (Level A2.2), 6 hrs/week, 6 ECTS credits + Writing Skills I (Level A2), 2 hrs/week, 2 ECTS credits
  • German as a Foreign Language – Intermediate II (Level B1), 6 hrs/week, 2 ECTS credits + Writing Skills II (Level B1), 2 hrs/week, 2 ECTS credits + German – Situational Grammar I (Level B1), 2 hrs/week, 2 ECTS credits

The courses "Mittelstufe I" und "Mittelstufe II" cannot be attended simultaneously.

Advanced:

  • German as a Foreign Language – Advanced (=Fortgeschrittene) I (Level B2), 4 hrs/week, 6 ECTS credits
  • German as a Foreign Language – Advanced (=Fortgeschrittene)II (Level C1), 4 hrs/week, 6 ECTS credits

The courses "Fortgeschrittene I" and "Fortgeschrittene II" cannot be attended simultaneously.

To find the right level of German course, please take placement tests A1, A2 or B1 available on the Center for Business Languages and Intercultural Communication's homepage (www.lang.jku.at) under the heading "Teaching – German as a Foreign Language"


What other information is there regarding the supplementary examination?

This examination is based on a B2+ level (in accordance with the European Framework of Reference) and intended to confirm that you can complete a degree program in German. This applies to the applicant's level of both written and spoken German.

The supplementary examination for German takes place three times during the semester. The exact examination dates are available before the beginning of the semester at the Center for Business Languages and Intercultural Communication (notification will be posted) and on the homepage.
