Leave of Absence / Study Leave

In accordance with § 67 of the 2002 Universities Act, students may apply for a leave of absence from studies for specific reasons. Students must enter the reasons for wishing to take a leave of absence directly on the form.

The form, plus all required documentation, must be submitted (in person, by regular mail, or per email: zulassung(/\t)jku.at) to the Admissions Department.
The approval is allowed up to the end of the grace period (SS 30.4., WS 30.11.) for which the leave absence is valid.

Please note! Beginning October 1, 2017, the latest amendment to the University Act goes into effect requiring that a leave of absence be applied for at the beginning of each semester (SS 01.03., WS 01.10.).
If there is an unforeseen and unavoidable legal start for a leave of absence, you may apply for a the leave of absence until the end of the grade period for that respective semester.

Students must pay the Student Union fee after the leave of absence has been officially approved, by 30.4. (SS) pr 30.1.. (WS) at the latest.

Approval and authorization for a student leave of absence will be noted on the student’s record sheet.

A leave of absence can be filed for a maximum of two consecutive semesters.

PLEASE NOTE:

During the student’s leave of absence, the student’s admission to studies is sustained however, students are not permitted to participate in any university courses, complete examinations or transfer examination credit, or submit and/or receive a grade for academic papers (Statute § 41 Johannes Kepler University Linz)
