Admission to a Master's Degree Program
Admission to a Master's degree program depends greatly on legal regulations as stated in each Master's degree program curriculum. Information on each degree program will state the admission requirements and, if available, the standard decisions in regards to admission.
Admission to a Master's Degree Program after Completion of a Bachelor's or Diploma Degree Program at the JKU Linz
Students who enroll in a (continuing) Master's degree program after successfully completing an undergraduate Bachelor's degree at the JKU Linz may be admitted to the Master's degree program during the following admission deadlines. To enroll, please come to the Admissions Office in person and bring your student ID card (KeplerCard) or send an e-mail to zulassung(/\t)jku.at within the admission deadline period. Please include your student ID number.
In certain cases, students may enroll in a consecutive Master's degree program outside of the admissions deadline. Please see Admissions Office for more information.
Students who wish to apply to a consecutive Master's degree program in which admission is not specified, or there is no standard decision regarding admission, must apply for admission to the program. Information can be found in the section on applying for admission.
Admission to a Master's Degree Program after Completion of a Bachelor's or Diploma Degree Program from Another Academic Institution in Austria (University, University of Applied Sciences)
Some Master's degree programs have specified standard decisions regarding admission to the program. These also apply to applicants from other Austrian universities, universities of applied sciences, etc. You can find these standard decisions in the curricula for the program you wish to enroll in.
If admission is based according the specified standard decision without special requirements, you will find information on further steps for admission here. In this case, your proof of having met all university entrance requirements will be your undergraduate degree diploma.
If the standard decision as stated in the program curricula require additional documentations, prospective students must apply for admission. Students will then receive official notification in writing stating what documentation is required. Click here for more information on the admission procedure.
If there is no specified standard decision in regards to the undergraduate degree you hold, you must apply for admission.
Admission to a Master's Degree Program after Completion of an Undergraduate Degree Completed Abroad
Students with international educational qualifications, or degree conferral from a country outside of Austria for which there is no standard admission decision and/or admission decision for documents submitted, must apply for admission and submit the following documentation in the original or as a verified copy:
- Form: "Application for Admission to a Master's Degree Program"
- Documents confirming the successful completion of a Bachelor's or Diploma degree program (conferral documents, transcripts listing all examinations and subjects completed, including grades, semester hours, and the program curriculum)
- A certified/notarized copy of your passport
Once the applicant submits an application form, including all required documentation, the application will be reviewed in order to determine the equivalency of the applicant's undergraduate or Diploma degree in regards to admission for a Master's degree program. The review procedure does not apply if there is a corresponding bilateral agreement confirming the equivalency of university degree programs.
All documents must be submitted in the original or as a verified copy and must show the appropriate verification of authenticity. Documents in a language other than German must be officially translated into German (unless the responsible authorities have issued the documents in English). See below for information on verified documents, German translations and deadlines pertaining to applications for admission.
After submitting all required documents to the Admissions Office at the Johannes Kepler University Linz, the application will be reviewed to ensure all formal criteria has been met. Prospective students will be notified of admission by letter. Please submit your application in a timely manner as the review process may take up to a few weeks.
Students who meet all admission criteria will receive an official acceptance letter. If the letter states if you must take supplementary examinations, you will first be enrolled externally as an außerordentliche/r Studierende/r. If no supplementary examinations are required, you will be officially enrolled as a degree-seeking student. Your acceptance letter serves as proof of having met all university entrance qualifications.
There is NO APPLICATION FEE to apply to the program. Applications prepared and submitted by an agency are not necessary and does not influence or affect the outcome of the admissions procedure.
