German Language Skills
Academic Degree Programs Taught in German
Applicants intending to enroll in an academic degree program taught entirely or partially in German must prove sufficient language skills in German before beginning studies.
Successful completion of Level B2+ (between B2 and C1 under the “Common European Framework of Reference for Languages”) in German is considered sufficient and will be accepted. Applicants who do not possess sufficient German language skills will be required to take a German language examination before being eligible to enroll in an academic degree program.
Before taking the language examination, students can enroll at the university under the status of "außerordentliche Studierende/ außerordentlicher Studierender" and take German language classes.
We strongly recommend that applicants whose educational or mother tongue is not German acquire the necessary language skills in German before entering Austria.
Academic Degree Programs Taught in English
Applicants wishing to enroll in an academic degree program taught entirely in English are not required to prove language proficiency in German.
