Learning Outcome

This course aims to teach how to find appropriate sensor principles for a given measurement task, to evaluate and understand their application range and limits, to plan, conduct and evaluate a measurement.

Course Content

  • Overview of sensor effects (galvano-magnetic effect, piezo-resistive-, pieze-electric-, pyro-electric effect, Seebeck-effect, electro-optic effect, etc.)
  • Temperature measurement
  • Pressure measurement
  • Force measurement
  • Torque measurement
  • Flow measurement
  • Measurement of mechanical stress
  • Measurement of acceleration
  • Sensors based on surface-acoustic waves (SAW)
