While stepping out of your comfort zone and finding new friends may not always be easy, Come2Upper Austria's Get-Together evenings provide a safe space for international residents in Upper Austria to come together and meet people having similar experiences. Yin yoga involves holding positions for several minutes and allowing ourselves to fall into these position. The goal is to relax, experience your limits and gently expand on them by practicing a variety of breathing techniques. Following the Yin Yoga session, you should feel more in balance and relaxed. Beginners welcome.
Please bring your yoga mat, comfortable warm clothing, and a thick blanket.

The class will be held in German.

Outing: Austrian History – Mauthausen 2024

When: May 25, 2024

Mauthausen, a concentration camp operated by Nazi Germany, was active between August 1938 and May 1945, before being liberated by the Allied forces. Over 190,000 individuals were imprisoned in the Mauthausen concentration camp and its subcamps for over seven years, and over 90,000 people perished.

Schedule:
First, we will take a guided tour throughout the entire complex and learn about the history; a history that should never be forgotten.
Following the guided tour, we will take the bus back to Linz and enjoy an Austrian-style lunch at the KHG, where we will also end the day with plenty of time for discussions and reflection. 

Participants only pay a small fee € 5 for the entire day (including bus transfers, tickets, and refreshments).
The fee will be collected in cash on the day of outing. 

As this excursion requires a good deal of advanced planning and organization, if you have signed up and must cancel, you must let us know by no later than May 15!

Before the new semester begins, the KHG would like to invite you to an end-of-the-summer weekend at Lake Hallstatt.

The weekend will feature fun games, food, talking, reading, arts & crafts, hiking, swimming, and hanging out at a self-catering house (Obertraun 12) in the center of Hallstatt!
The area is an inviting space to spend time with friends and make new friends!

You can get there easily by train (station: Obertraun Dachsteinhöhlen railway station).
Can't - or don't want to - stay for the full three days? No problem! You can stay for a shorter period and individually organize your arrival/departure.

Cost per day: € 20 (all inclusive)

Language Café - Hike - Camp Fire 

We would like to end the semester together. Take a little break from studying and join us to clear your head for a while.
We're starting with the Language Café in KHG gallery. 
Afterwards, we will meet in front of the IWC for a short walk (about 30 min to 1 hour) - please wear sturdy walking shoes as it may be a bit slippery. 
We'll end the day relaxing around a campfire and enjoying some small snacks. 

The KHG team and the IWC look forward to seeing you there!

Bury Your Head in the Sound – in English

The "Bury Your Head in the Sound" workshop has been designed for international students in all majors, providing a platform to come together with peers and learn more about navigating distinct challenges international students may encounter.

Moving to a new country to study can be a daunting experience, often accompanied by unfamiliar surroundings, customs, and expectations. This workshop focuses primarily on easing the transition by improving stress management skills, helping to work out personal expectations and goals, and enriching cross-cultural skills.

A variety of exercises, guided discussions, and theoretical input provide support to learn how to effectively and independently manage one's life in a new country. Music is a universal language, serving as a foundation as part of certain exercises. However, you don't need a musical background to take part in this workshop.

It's no secret that we humans need sleep. We need our sleep to be able to function well - both mentally and physically - and to support our memory, to recover, and to build up our immune system. However, one in five people has trouble sleeping.
Many people do not sleep well, or have trouble falling asleep and staying asleep, or experience nightmares. This workshop is an opportunity to better understand your own sleep patterns and control the factors that influence your quality of sleep. We would like to extend an invitation to attend the workshop to those who wish to learn more about sleep, and as well as those experiencing sleep issues.

What to expect:
Regardless of the weather, the Steyrtal Railway will an enjoyable excursions for young and old alike. The 60-minute journey along the riverbank is relaxing and entertaining. Arriving in Steinbach/Steyr, we will explore the village's picturesque Christmas market and enjoy traditional local food and warm drinks. Afterwards, we will take the vintage train back to Steyr to soak up the festive atmosphere, share holiday cookies, and sing your favourite Christmas carols on the train.

  • Museumsbahn Steyrtal (Redtenbachergasse 14, 4400 Steyr) at 1:00 PM (If you drive there, you can park near the Museumbahn Steyrtal)

Mauthausen was a massive, active concentration camp as part of the Third Reich in Austria between August 1938 to May 1945. The camp was liberated by the Allies in 1945. Over the seven-year period, over 190,000 people were imprisoned at the Mauthausen concentration camp and its subcamps; over 90,000 people lost their lives there.

A guide will take us through the entire complex to learn more about important historical facts that should never be forgotten.

After the guided tour, we will go to a traditional cider taverna. We are scheduled to be back in Linz by approximately 4:00 PM.
