  • Metal-insulator phase transition in 2D semiconductor systems

The metal-insulator transition occurs in high-mobility two-dimensional (2D) semiconductor systems. Before the discovery of the metallic state in 2D, it was thought that all 2D systems obey the weak and strong localization towards lower temperature. Now, the question is whether the unexpected metallic state is caused by quantum interference effects or if it can be explained by conventional physics.

  • Electrical transport in quantum wires and dots

The electrical conductivity of low dimensional systems is investigated in quantum wire (1D) and quantum dot (0D) systems. We have prepared such systems in the clean room of our institute. Both characteristic effects, the quantized steps in 1D and the Coulomb blockade peaks in 0D have been observed.
