Institute for Software Systems Engineering
The Institute for Software Systems Engineering (ISSE) is a leading research institute on software and systems engineering. Its mission is to teach and to conduct research on software development with a focus on the increasingly vital role of modeling. Without doubt, software is at the center of innovation in the 21st century. Our institute thus develops and teaches about principles and methods for making software development more cost effective, transparent, and reliable. The work of the institute covers a wide area of software development, from requirements capture, architecture and design, testing, to maintenance; including software modeling (consistency, traceability, impact of change), product line engineering (and other forms of variability), requirements engineering, monitoring, and software processes. Automation plays a fundamental role to provide the software engineers with the right tools. The institute is part of the Johannes Kepler University (JKU) and is situated on its main campus in Linz, Austria.
The goal of software engineering research is to improve how we develop and maintain software systems. Our research areas cover all stages from requirements, specification, architecture, design, implementation, testing, to maintenance. Find out more online under the Research tab.
World-Leading Research Institution in Software EngineeringThe JKU ranks Top 50 among the software engineering research institutions in the world according to Microsoft Academic Search. Find out more under the Recognitions tab.
Practical, Industry-Relevant TeachingThe JKU Software Engineering Master’s Study was ranked the best CS program in Austria and the best technical program at the Johannes Kepler University. Our software engineering courses are inspired by industrial research and development. Find out more online under the Teaching tab.
