Joint Master’s Degree Program in Global Business - ACT: Company Presentations

This year’s final company presentations by business students in the ACT Program took place at the JKU from April 26-27, 2016.
The ACT program is a joint graduate global business degree program between the Johannes Kepler University Linz (Austria), the University of Victoria (Canada) and der National Sun Yat-sen University in Kaohsiung (Taiwan). Students in the program spend three-months studying at each university in Canada, Taiwan and Austria. During the last module at the JKU, students take part in courses and work together as part of an international team to complete a project in cooperation with internationally active companies in Upper Austria. The projects are detailed and involved and students must present the results of their project in front of company representatives, guests from the partner universities, and JKU faculty members.

This year, students completed projects for Austrian companies such as Fronius, KPMG, KTM, voestalpine, Rosenbauer, Tannpapier and Wintersteiger. Students in the ACT program work on projects together in multinational teams that, for example, analyze a company’s recruiting strategies for the Austrian, Chinese, or Canadian market, analyze the market for mergers and acquisitions in Europe, Asia, and Canada, or develop a knowledge transfer model for an internationally active company. Both the companies and student alike benefit from the ACT program project and the project results. Companies get to keep the carefully formulated results and valuable insights, and the students learn more first-hand about real-world business practices and can make valuable contacts to the companies.

Starting last year, students in the ACT program also have an opportunity to earn a double degree at the National Sun Yat-sen University (Taiwan). Beginning in mid-May, seven JKU students will return to Kaohsiung for an additional two months to complete the requirements in the partnership agreement that will allow them to earn an MBA degree at the National Sun Yat-sen University.
