JKU - Pursuing Excellence.

As part of the educational experience, the JKU is reinforcing its image as a place to study, work, and spend time by implementing new campus enhancement plans. Cool - but what exactly are we talking about? And what will the new buildings look like? You can find the answers to these - and many other questions - right here.

Frequently Asked Questions (and Answers) about Campus Construction

The JKU is investing a lot of money in its campus enhancement plans. The campus construction plans are, however, not a uniform project, but rather they consist of several individual projects. For example, the LIT Open Innovation Center itself is not related to the construction of the Science Park 4 building. Financing is provided by the Federal Real Estate Co., Austrian ministries, Upper Austrian government, city of Linz, etc., and it is also different. Naturally during construction there are deviations from the original estimates. An exact amount for "the" campus enhancement plans is hard to pin down. However, financing has been secured for all projects.

We fully understand that a construction site has its inconveniences. Even during the planning stages, university management has strived to organize the construction phases with minimal disruption to campus activities. As progress continues, both university management and the contractors will do their best to minimize any inconveniences but, of course, some will be inevitable. If there is anything you find particularly difficult, please report it by sending an e-mail to campusentwicklung@jku.at.

Enrollment at the JKU is growing steadily. The JKU also aims to become one of Europe's top-ranking universities, requiring a strong commitment to hire talented and committed employees as well as provide world-class infrastructure. The only way that the JKU can continue to be on the cutting-edge and benefit our economy and society is to secure itself as one of the region's top employers and create a center for high-quality academic education.

From the very start, the campus area was intended to accommodate the JKU's growth and development. This was one of the main reasons for building the university on the outskirts of the city. Enrollment at the JKU is growing steadily. The only way that the JKU can continue to be on the cutting-edge and benefit our economy and society is to secure itself as one of the region's top employers and create a center for high-quality academic education.

As most of the construction projects do not directly impact the residents living in close proximity to the campus area, the law does not require involving these residents in construction plans. The only exception is the JKU Science Park 4 building and a residents meeting was held in the Fall of 2018.

As a short-term solution, the Kepler Hall construction site will be graveled during the spring of 2018 and will then serve as a transitional parking lot. Those who have semester parking permits can always enter the parking lot, even if the light is red as a certain number of parking spaces have been reserved in the system for those who have parking permits. In this regard, a red light does not necessarily mean that those who have parking permits have nowhere to park.

It would also help if you used the parking lot entrance closest to your destination - i.e. the Mengerstraße entrance if you want to park close to the TN Tower, etc. This helps to reduce throughway traffic in the parking lot.
