Sus2C Sustainable carbons and composites based on lignin and cellulose.

Project goals & contents:

The project is working on the development of high-quality materials such as additives, matrices or functional carbons from bio-based raw materials, especially from residual and side streams.

This enables the valorisation of underutilised or neglected material streams, thereby reducing residual and side streams and maximising resource efficiency.

It also reduces dependence on non-renewable fossil fuels and promotes the transition to a more sustainable and low-carbon economy.

Funding:
The project  is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the Province of Upper Austria.

By developing optimised (bio)processes, materials with a lower carbon footprint can be produced. In addition, biomass-derived materials even have the potential to act as carbon sinks by capturing CO2 from the atmosphere and storing it over a longer period of time. This carbon sequestration can ultimately help mitigate climate change by reducing the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
