Changes in the requirements to complete language courses at the JKU will go into effect starting in Winter Semester 2016/2017.

Bachelor's Degree Program in Business & Economics

Beginning WS 2016/2017, degree-seeking students enrolled in the Bachelor's degree program in Business & Economics will only be able to complete the foreign language courses required to fulfill admission requirements (provided they are available) and before completing the "Studies Introduction and Orientation Phase (StEOP)" of the program. Students will no longer be able to complete the English Communicative Skills course before completing the StEOP requirements.

If you enrolled in this major before WS 2016/2017 and have opted to fulfill the business language requirements in a language other than English but have not yet completed any of the required courses, the following applies:

• The second business language must only be worth 12 ECTS credits
• Students taking French, Italian, and Spanish as a business language must have a uniform level of proficiency equivalent to "Intermediate (Level 1)". Students not at an intermediate level can take courses. These will count toward fulfilling the autonomous coursework requirement.
• Students taking Russian, Czech, and Chinese as a business languaage must all be at "Beginner (Level 0)"
• The right to decide which foreign language course to take depends on whether the course is offered or not
• The supplementary subject business language is no longer required
• The requirements for a second business language have been reduced by 6 ECTS credits and the resulting delta can be compensated by completing the course "Vertiefung der Kernkompetenzen aus Betriebswirtschaftslehre" worth 12 ECTS credits (instead of only 6 ECTS credits) or completing courses in the area of business and economics at the level of a main subject area as part of a semester abroad program worth 24 ECTS credits (instead of only 18) ECTS.
