Preparation Course - Fundamentals in Mechanical Engineering

This preparation course is ideal for newly enrolled students in the following academic degree programs:

 

 

The course is open to students in other Bachelor's/Diploma degree programs in engineering and natural sciences.
 

Objectives

  • To introduce students to the "world of mechical engineering" and ease the transition to the program
  • Support interest in the field of mechanical engineering

Course Content

  • Technical Freehand Drawing

    • Draw geometrical objects by hand (without a protractor or ruler)
    • Illustrate the required projections and sections based on concrete examples

    •  Practice geometric visualization (the ability to think in projections and sections)

  • Tour of the Institute / JKU Campus

    • Demonstration of selected machine tools, including the corresponding manufacturing processes, tools, clamping, and testing equipment.

    • Visit the CAM lab or workshop to learn about components and assembly groups (i.e. screw fittings, installation tools)

  • A field trip to a mechanical engineering manufacturing company

  • Guest lecture on the subject of "Hydraulics

  • Excavator driving at the JKU campus
