Admission to Studies

  • General higher education entrance qualifications (such as an Austrian "Matura" diploma)
  • In addition, we recommend that students be proficient in English (B2 level).

The Bachelor's degree program in Bioinformatics is a cross-border degree program between the Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU Linz) and the University of South Bohemia in Budweis (USB Budweis). Students must be enrolled at both universities.

Admission to the JKU Linz

Admission to the JKU Linz for International Students

Admission for international students holding non-Austrian academic university entrance qualifications depends on the student's home country. Please contact the Admissions Office at the JKU Linz by sending an e-mail to: admission@jku.at to learn more about enrolling at the JKU Linz.

IMPORTANT:

Non-EU citizens need a visa (resident permit) for the country in which they reside during the semester. Contact the Austrian or Czech consulate/embassy in your home country for information about visas and residence permits.

Admission to the USB Budweis

Each student is required to register in person at the USB Budweis. To help, a bus will be organized shortly before the start of the semester to take students from Linz to Budweis. Once there, the students will meet their contact person, have a guided campus tour, and receive assistance to enroll.

Examinations - Credit Transfer and Recognition

Credit transfer toward the Bioinformatics program is reviewed and approved on a case-by-case basis by program director Prof. Sepp Hochreiter. If you have any questions about credit transfer, please make an appointment to speak with Prof. Hochreiter in person or send an e-mail.

The English-language, cross-border Bachelor's degree program in Bioinformatics is offered jointly with the University of South Bohemia in Budweis (USB Budweis). Below you will find an overview of the study locations:

Accommodations

in Budweis

Once you are officially admitted to the program, a room at Building K4 in Budweis will be pre-booked for you:

  • A double occupancy room with one shared bathroom costs approx. €85 per person, per month
  • You must may 2 months of rent in advance (approx. 4100 CZK)

There are also private student dorms located in close proximity to the campus in Budweis. If you would like to live there, you must make the arrangements yourself.

The train to Budweis takes approximately 2 hours. By car or by FlixBus, the trip is around 1 hour and 50 minutes.

in Linz

Third semester students will receive an email in February containing a form to reserve a room at the Julius Raab Heim. Click here for information about other student dormitories located close to the JKU campus. If you prefer one of these dorms, you must make the arrangements yourself.
