Fundamentals of scientific research and general skills V: Advanced Biostatistics

In this seminar, students will simulate a clinical trial.

The following topics will be covered:

  • Presentation of the clinical trial from a medical point of view by the course instructor and providing information needed to plan the clinical trial.
  • Preparation of a study plan (including application form for institutional review board and statistical analysis plan) by the students.
  • Presentation of the study plan by the students.
  • Providing real data of an already published clinical trial. Students are analyzing this data based on their own presented study plan and are writing a study report.
  • Presentation of the final study results

At the start a short intro/recap into biostatistics in clinical research (descriptive statistics, statistical testing, sample size estimation) will be provided by the instructor.
