Here you find information around the admission to the PhD Economics program at JKU

General information

  • Admission to the PhD Program in Economics requires a university (diploma or) master's degree in a thematically relevant field.

 

  • Accepted degrees awarded by the University of Innsbruck:
    • Master Program Applied Economics
    • Master program Banking and Finance
    • Diploma Program Political Economy

 

  • Accepted degrees awarded by University of Linz:
    • Master Program Economics
    • Master Program Management and Applied Economics
    • Diploma Program in Business and Economics

 

It is highly recommended to get in touch with potential supervisors prior application to the programme. Only faculty members with habilitation are allowed to supervise dissertations.

Admission to the PhD Program in Economics requires previous knowledge in Economics equivalent to the programs stated above.  Applicants with degrees awarded by other universities or  by universities of applied sciences ("Fachhochschulen") are considered on an individual basis.

In the event that equivalence has been established in principle but with certain qualifications missing for full equivalence, supplemental examinations may be required. These examinations must be completed before or during the PhD program.

The language of the program is English. As such, any German language requirements do not apply.
