The course "Industrial Organization and Digital Economy" investigates various topics in the fields of industrial organization or competition economics. Each semester focuses on one main topic, which may change over time.
The course consists of two parts, a lecture and a seminar.
The first part of the course (the lecture) reviews the most important theoretical models of the current main topic. This part lasts about 4 weeks and ands with a (short) written exam.
In the second part of the course (the seminar), a number of pre-selected journal articles will be discussed. Pairs of students have to read two articles. One student presents the first article in class and summarizes the second paper, while the second student acts vice versa. Discussing the article with the second group member as well as with the instructor before the presentation ensures a high quality of the presentations. An active participation in class is required.
