Virtual Workshop on Molecular Communications

Latest research results of the interdisciplinary and emerging field of molecular communications

Banner of the workshop

The 5th edition of the Workshop on Molecular Communications will be held online on 11.November, 4pm-7pm due the pandemic.

New applications in medicine, such as "Smart Drug Delivery" and "Internet of Bio-NanoThings", require the communication between so-called nanomachines (e.g., nanorobots). Since nanomachines are typically micro/nano-sized and operate in liquid environments, conventional wireless communications using electromagnetic waves is not feasible or detrimental. However, a promising approach to enable information transmission in such a setup is to use molecules instead.

The Workshop on Molecular Communications is organized by Werner Haselmayr (Institute for Communications Engineering and RF-Systems) together with international colleagues. The workshop will deliver four keynotes on cutting-edge topics and one panel discussion on the future of the field.

Keynotes

  • Keynote 1: "Coronavirus Transmission via Aerosol Propagation from a Molecular Communication Perspective"
Prof. Peter Hoeher, University of Kiel, Germany
  • Keynote 2: "Molecular Communication Technology for Human Medicine"
Prof. Ilangko Balasingham, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim and Oslo University Hospital, Oslo
  • Keynote 3: "Plants as information processing machines"
Prof. Richard Morris, John Innes Centre, UK
  • Keynote 4: "Anomaly detection and localization based on Molecular Communications"
Prof. Masoumeh Nasiri-Kenari, Sharif University of Technology, Iran
