When it comes to equipment and support services for PC workstations and standard software, the JKU's Department of User Services is the university's core backbone.

Our Service Desk provides personal and comprehensive support services to students, faculty members, researchers, course instructors and administrative staff when it comes to central user administration and/or installing and providing hardware and software. We also offer larger-format printing services and provide any required technical equipment for two IT training rooms.
 

Employees can contact the Service Desk to rent hardware to temporarily cover any needs for example in regards to laptops.

The Department of User Services is part of Information Management and is divided into two divisions:

  • Standard PC Workstation
  • Service Desk

SERVICES

JKU User Account

A JKU user account is required in order to access digital services at the JKU. JKU students and employees will receive a personal JKU account and password and can access various services depending on the authorizations given.

PC Standard Workstation

The JKU will provide eligible employees with a standard, modern IT workstation, including accessories. Employees will receive a standard, high-performance PC (a notebook or desktop computer) that contains a standard selection of software. A request for a standard workstation must be submitted by the responsible department.

E-Mail Boxes & Calendar

In addition to a personal user account, to assist in everyday operations at the workplace, JKU employees will receive a an e-mail box and the standard Groupwise software package from Microfocus. If required, smartphone users can activate mobile synchronization.

File and Document Storage/Exchange

JKU departments can store files and/or documents in personalized folders or shared group directories pm a central file server that has the corresponding storage space. These can be accessed when on campus or when off-campus through a separate online browser.

De-Centralized Printing Services

Decentralized printers located at the various JKU departments can be used by means of corresponding print server functions and driver installation.

Hardware and Software - Sales & Rental

If needed for an event or for teaching purposes, JKU employees can request hardware services on a temporary basis (i.e. notebooks) for university purposes, free of charge.The JKU also has campus contracts with various companies and students can purchase selected software packages at student discount prices.

Large-Format Printing Services

JKU employees can use this service to upload templates and request poster-size printing services (A0-A3 in format size) . Completed orders can be picked up at the Service Desk.
