We are looking for PhD candidates to join the CDL-MWTH (Christian Doppler Laboratory for Distributed Microwave and Terahertz Systems for Sensors and Data Links) at the Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU). The research topics of our group include integrated RF circuits, passive RF components, as well as system design and signal processing for wireless sensors and RF data links. A focus is on frequencies in the mm-wave and THz regions.

Several fully funded research positions (40h per week) in the following areas are currently available:
• RF circuit design on SiGe and BiCMOS technology
• Novel mm-wave and THz sensors and sensor systems
• High-data-rate communication systems
• Digital signal processing for RF-based communication links and sensors

Job Duties:

  • Carrying out research in one of the aforementioned areas
  • Publication and presentation of the scientific work in journals and at international conferences
  • Supervision of student projects

Your Qualifications:

  • You have an above-average university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Electronics, Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechatronics, respectively, or in a closely related field like Computer Sciences, Mathematics or Physics
  • Experience in at least one of the following fields: a) RF circuits, systems and measurement techniques b) RF circuit design on SiGe or BiCMOS c) Digital signal processing d) Software and hardware co-development, e.g. with DSP- and/or FPGA
  • You have a high interest in scientific research and are able to work independently and self-motivated
  • Good IT skills, Python, Matlab, simulation tools (RF, circuit design, etc.)
  • You are a team player and fluent in English (level B2). Knowledge of German is a plus

The RF-Systems group of the Institute for Communications Engineering and RF-Systems at the Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU) offers positions for pre-doctoral researchers that are to be filled as soon as possible. The research topics of our group include integrated RF circuits, passive RF components, as well as system design and signal processing for wireless sensing and localization. A strong focus is on mm-wave radar systems for automotive and industrial applications.

The projects are carried out together with industrial partners and offer the possibility of a dissertation.

Candidates should have a master-equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or Mechatronics, respectively, or in a closely related field like Computer Sciences, Mathematics or Physics. The working languages are English and/or German.

Required skills:

  • Experience in at least one of the following fields:
  • RF circuits and systems
  • RF measurement techniques
  • Digital signal processing
  • Software and hardware development for DSP- and/or FPGA-based systems
  • Electronic hardware development
  • Independent and self-motivated working
  • Good IT skills
  • It is not expected that the candidate already has publications in the mentioned research areas, but this is a plus.
