Materials are employed in a broad spectrum of applications ranging from electronic devices via solar cells to catalysts. In electronic transport and chemical reactions the properties and processes on the atomic scale are pivotal. The group investigates electronic properties, optical excitations, and  chemical interaction using first principles modeling within the framework of density functional theory and many body perturbation theory and complimentary experiments. Our research has focused on doping of semi conductors, realisation of quantum bits and sensors by defects in semiconductors, and adsorbate systems at the surface of solids.
